The Palm Bevel is our micro-cutaway: a small, local bevel at the treble-side edge beside the upper fingerboard. It softens the contact your fretting hand meets as you reach into the upper register, while keeping the body outline close to a full-body shape.
It is distinct from the larger, sculpted shoulder of a semi-cutaway. Palm Bevel can also be added to a full cutaway for a more comfortable transition against the hand.
We shape it with the neck joint, fingerboard elevation and your chosen body. The cutaway determines the broader access; the bevel refines the surface your hand touches.
Palm Bevel or semi-cutaway?
Palm Bevel is a micro-cutaway: a small, local relief at the upper edge. A semi-cutaway reshapes a larger part of the shoulder beside the neck. They are different body treatments, illustrated separately on our Body & Cutaways page.
Can Palm Bevel be added to a full cutaway?
Yes. Palm Bevel can be combined with a full cutaway to soften the contact surface and add comfort. The cutaway shape and the additional bevel are confirmed together in the instrument specification.
Which hand does it help?
It addresses the fretting hand near the body joint. The Arm Bevel supports the forearm on the front edge, while the Rib Bevel softens contact against the torso.
The photographed instrument has its own specification. Decorative inlays and individual artwork are optional and quoted separately.
